Exhibition “100 Faces of Tai Kwun”
their inaugural exhibition, “100 Faces of Tai Kwun”. In this project I created 250 story illustrations based on the 100 oral histories interviewed by Tai Kwun, and it took two years from preparation to exhibition. This exhibition is a straightforward form to portray a community story. During the three-month exhibition period, there are more than 300,000 people visited. The entire exhibition completed by our tripartite contribution: the curatorship by Tai Kwun, the exhibition design by the ADO Culture and me (the only participated artist). On the opening day, more than 100 interviewed kai fong were invited.
About the exhibition.
The kai fong who live in the Central area is the main visual and the key concept of the exhibition. They are the butcher, female students and the waiters. They constantly interact with each other and co-create the stories happened in Tai Kwun. The graphics print on flyers, posters, huge banners, badges and etc.
When the audiences enter the exhibition, they first go through the story box of the Tai Kwun, and then walk to the main street and get to know the 100 stories about neighborhoods through playing with the interactive map of Central in the 1960s. After that, the audiences walk into the stories of the old stores and learn about them around the museum through the interactive games and my sketching works.
This is part of the exhibition, which simulating the gashapon machine places in the store in front of the Former Hollywood Road Police Married Quarters. The visitors can hand-crank a total of nine items that were previously available in this store. Attached a yonkoma manga to tell the story of the store.

Publication “Once Upon a Time in Tai Kwun”
As my second publication, the book “Once Upon a Time in Tai Kwun” is based on the oral histories from 100 neighbours in Central, in which eight socially representative characters are created, including the hawker, illegal immigrant, and kid. All of them have their own stories while plots of which are in some way connected to another. It interprets my understanding of the complex relationships among people in the society, constructing the old and the 1960s Central neighbourhood. The whole book includes coloured comic and panoramic images. It was published in 2018 with 128 pages in total and the production had taken for 1.5 years.
